Nick Wates Associates specializes in public engagement in planning and urban design, or placemaking as it is now often called.. We undertake consultancy on a wide range of practical projects as well as conducting research and producing good practice materials.

In 2020 the pandemic made it difficult to do community engagement work and our focus changed to consolidating past work and  making use of our extensive project archives.

Clients include public, private and voluntary sector organisations, both in the UK and overseas.

Dr Nick Wates, who has had over 50 years experience in the field, leads all projects, working closely with associates with specialist expertise in graphic design, information technology and a range of environmental and management disciplines.

The practice collaborates with other professional organisations to provide the required capacity for specific projects.
