Nick Wates started practice in the 1970s and wound down in the 2020s. In between there was half a century of writing, researching, publishing, photographing, building, developing, campaigning, regenerating, project managing and training. The focus has been on the built environment and people’s involvement in shaping it.
Apart from relatively short stints employed by the Architects’ Journal and Hastings Borough Council, the work has been undertaken as an independent freelancer, in collaboration with a host of talented and inspirational people in many disciplines. Clients have included public, private and voluntary sector organisations, both in the UK and overseas.
This website is a celebration of the work by Nick Wates Associates and an acknowledgment of those who have made it possible. It is also a handover to those who will be able to build on it in the future. It is a digital library of material which can be drawn on in practical, teaching and academic work by anyone anywhere in the world.
